Western Pacific Antimicrobial Stewardship Program Online Educational Modules (WPAMS)

The COMBAT-AMR program has developed the Western Pacific Antimicrobial Stewardship Program Online Educational Modules (WPAMS) to support nurses, pharmacists, doctors and hospital administrators working at the hospital or in the community to implement AMS programs.

The aim for the educational modules are to inform interested personnel on how to establish an AMS program in their local setting ('top down' approach), and to introduce and describe the key principles of AMS as it relates to the those practicing in a clinical environment ('bottom up' or 'grass roots' approach).

Part One of the modules describes the operational aspects of implementing an AMS program, including resources and processes required to establish and operationalise an AMS program, how microbiology and other clinical teams can support the implementation of AMS programs, training components required for staff, and processes to monitor antimicrobial use and prescribing.

Part Two uses a case-based approach to describe and illustrate the principles of AMS as it applies to a range of clinical scenarios, such as respiratory tract infection, surgical site infection and surgical prophylaxis.

The Western Pacific Antimicrobial Stewardship Program Online Educational Modules (WPAMS) are available by request and accessible through RedCAP. Please complete the below form to submit your request.

Our Work

COMBAT-AMR will deliver a program of work during 2019 – 2022 at major national sites, including referral hospitals and laboratories, across four key themes.

Infection Prevention and Control

COMBAT-AMR will improve Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) by establishing best practice policies, procedures and systems for monitoring selected healthcare associated infections through training and mentoring.

Learn More
Antimicrobial Stewardship

COMBAT-AMR will provide training and mentorship to build capacity for improved measurement and ongoing monitoring of the appropriateness of antibiotic use, as well as the capability to manage antimicrobial stewardship and respond to emerging issues.

Learn More
Laboratory Capacity and Surveillance

COMBAT-AMR will improve capacity for laboratory surveillance of AMR through training and mentoring activities to detect AMR in an accurate and timely manner, to undertake surveillance of WHO AMR priority pathogens, and to establish efficient referral pathways for AMR pathogens.

Animal Health‍

COMBAT-AMR will help mitigate the threat of antimicrobial resistance arising using a One Health approach, by assessing current practices, policies, procedures and systems for monitoring and controlling antimicrobial resistance in animal health and developing approaches to address needs through training and mentoring.
